Yoga Therapy

Yoga Therapy is now available at Inner Fire Yoga® for private yoga sessions. Yoga Therapy is a melding of yogic and Ayurvedic tools for healing and well being.

Yoga and Ayurveda are sister sciences in the Indian Vedic tradition of health in the tradition known as Sanatana Dharma, or path to the Eternal Truth. Although Yoga has been known in the West for over a hundred years, Ayurveda has only been studied in the past few decades. In the Indian tradition, the two are one. The yogic tradition is based on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the eight limbs of Ashtanga leading toward the path of spiritual liberation. The tradition of Ayurveda, or “the science of life”, focuses on creating a balanced, vibrant state of healthy body, mind, and spirit. The knowledge and use of both can help towards living fully with vitality, expanded awareness, in harmony with the laws of nature, the cosmos and our fellow beings.

An Ayurvedic Yoga Therapist is able to use methods from both sciences for healing of the body, mind, and spirit. The methods are individually tailored for maximum benefit according to the individual constitution, or ‘prakruti’. The diagnosis of the individual’s unique constitution is imperative in helping the individual restore balance and health to their life.

Using patient intake and assessment forms, the therapist prescribes various methods to managing a variety of conditions which may include injury, muscular and skeletal disorders, stress related illnesses, digestive disorders, cancer, depression, anxiety, emotional disorders, addiction, grief/loss, diabetes, MS, high blood pressure, eating disorders, chronic fatigue, nausea, low back pain, sciatica, carpal tunnel, knee and hip injury, and pain management. Full postural and movement assessments from the therapist can help identify the source of physical problems. Yoga asanas are prescribed that are appropriate for the novice yogi or advanced.

A diagnosis can incorporate any of the tools appropriate from the Yogic and Ayurvedic tradition including:

  • Asana
  • Pranayama
  • Meditation
  • IRest Therapy or Yoga Nidra
  • Restorative yoga
  • Guided Visualization
  • Cleansing practices
  • Yogic and Ayurvedic diets
