Anne Schoenemann
East ReceptionistI came to yoga by way of a friend whose daughter regularly practiced the original hot series out in Colorado and wanted her mother to personally experience the mind-body benefits of a dedicated yoga practice. I was a long-distance runner with knee and back injuries looking for an alternative exercise regimen to help recover and maintain military physical fitness standards.
We both worked in town and began to meet at Inner Fire Yoga at the end of the day to take classes together and carpool home. But while her interest in yoga eventually waned, my love affair only grew. My body was feeling so much better, and to my surprise, so was my mind.
I continued to come to Inner Fire Yoga by myself and gradually established my own dedicated practice. That practice has evolved over the last ten years through different communities, teachers, and yoga styles, but has always remained an essential part of my life.
With yoga, I find I bring a kinder, gentler version of myself to each day, and an ability to act with a greater degree of intention and clarity. The ability to sit with discomfort and anticipation on the mat has truly been transformational - helping me relax into life, embrace imperfection, and discover the joy in our present moments. Learning not to take life so seriously has also brought with it a never-ending stream of gratitude and a deeper sense of satisfaction with people and circumstances just as they are.
The community at Inner Fire Yoga has been so open and welcoming that it quickly became my go-to safe haven for grounding and centering. The encouragement I received and the discipline I learned also became the benchmark for what I sought elsewhere as I traveled, changed jobs, and moved residences. And when I returned, I found the same sense of quiet compassion and acceptance waiting for me.
I look forward to seeing you on the mat!
