Devonna Peters

I began my yoga journey shortly after I gave birth to my daughter 14 years ago, I was 21 years old and mental health has always been a major struggle for me. Yoga was always the antidote.

When I practice yoga I feel free and natural. I am so focused on my breathwork and grounding myself fully that all of the things that were weighing me down before suddenly disappear when I do yoga. I loved the practice so much I had dreams of becoming a yoga teacher. Practicing at home is just a natural movement for me. I find myself in the yogic state of mind everywhere I go and it's a beautiful way to be.

I began taking my practice more seriously when I moved to Madison 10 years ago. Madison quickly became home for me, and the many yoga studios surrounding me made it easy to make it a commitment to my practice. However, Inner Fire Yoga is the studio that has been the most monumental in my growth as a yogi.

When I quit drinking alcohol 2.5 years ago Inner Fire Yoga was the first place I went to. There is something really special about a heated room, it really grounds and comforts me. The vibe of the hot yoga community is a very loving, fun, and more importantly, accepting community to be a part of. I always feel right at home in the studio.

My favorite classes are the Inner Fire Flow classes, Power Flows, and the Slow Flows, but I am also leaning towards making the Original Hot 90 sequence a part of my Sunday rituals! I love the dedication, routine, and structure of OG hot yoga classes. I am forever inspired by my fellow yogis!

I began yoga teacher training through Inner Fire last October and completed my 200 hours this past March (dreams do come true!!). Our first module was learning the Inner Fire Flow sequence, so that has become a home base for me.

It’s truly hard to pick a favorite teacher because they all have a beautiful way of leading a class. I love Jennifer’s Friday evening Inner Fire Flow classes, I find them to be very meditative and soothing, I've gotten to the point where practicing with my eyes closed really helps me to tune in and listen to the teacher along with trusting and knowing myself (and the fact that I get so hot that sweat gets in my eyes 😄).

Marit has a unique and talented staff along with the most dedicated yoga community and I feel honored to be able to learn and flow with all of you! I am now even more honored that I get to share my practice with all kinds of people, sharing in the groove! Yoga is life!!
